Oral Cancer Screening
Early detection saves lives. We offer comprehensive oral cancer screenings to keep you one step ahead of oral health risks.
What is Oral Cancer Screening?
Oral cancer screening is a crucial preventive measure that can save lives. We prioritize your overall health, not just your dental well-being. Our oral cancer screenings are designed to identify early signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in your mouth.
The process is quick, painless, and can be done during your regular dental check-up. Early detection is key in treating oral cancer successfully, and that’s why we recommend regular screenings for all our patients. It’s not just about teeth and gums; it’s about comprehensive care that looks at the bigger picture.
We use advanced technology and methods to ensure the most accurate results. Our team is trained to look for any abnormalities or changes that could indicate a problem. With early detection, the chances of successful treatment are much higher, and it can potentially save your life.
What are the Symptoms of Oral Cancer?
Knowing the symptoms of oral cancer can empower you to take action early. We believe that education is a vital part of preventive care. While oral cancer symptoms can vary, there are some common signs to watch out for.
The symptoms can range from subtle to more noticeable. Some of the common signs include persistent sores in the mouth, difficulty in swallowing, and unexplained bleeding. It’s essential to remember that these symptoms don’t automatically mean you have cancer, but they are red flags that should not be ignored.
Here are some symptoms to be aware of:
- Persistent mouth sores
- Unexplained bleeding in the mouth
- Difficulty swallowing or chewing
- A lump or thickening in the cheek
- A sore throat or feeling that something is caught in the throat
- Changes in the color or texture of the oral tissues
- Unexplained numbness in the mouth or lips
If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare provider for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Early detection is key, and our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
When it comes to your health, you shouldn’t have to compromise because of cost concerns. We strive to make oral cancer screenings accessible and affordable for everyone. The cost of an oral cancer screening can vary depending on your insurance coverage and the specific tests involved.
We accept a variety of insurance plans and also offer flexible payment options to fit your budget. Our team is happy to discuss the costs with you upfront, so there are no surprises. Investing in an oral cancer screening is an investment in your long-term health, and we believe it’s a step everyone should be able to take.
How We Perform Oral Cancer Screenings?
We take a comprehensive approach to oral cancer screenings, ensuring that you receive the most thorough examination possible. Our skilled dental professionals use state-of-the-art technology and proven methods to detect any signs of oral cancer early when it’s most treatable.
Here’s what you can expect during your oral cancer screening:
- Visual Inspection: We will start by visually examining your lips, face, neck, and the inside of your mouth for any abnormalities like sores or discolored patches.
- Physical Examination: We’ll also feel the areas around your jaw, neck, and cheeks for any unusual lumps or bumps.
- Advanced Technology: For a more in-depth look, we may use special lights or dyes that can help highlight abnormal cells.
- Discussion and Next Steps: After the screening, we’ll discuss the findings with you and recommend any further tests or treatments if necessary.
Your health is our top priority, and we’re committed to providing you with the best care possible.

Understanding the Risk Factors for Oral Cancer
When it comes to oral cancer, awareness is your first line of defense. We’re committed to educating our community about the various factors that could put you at risk for developing this serious condition. By understanding these risk factors, you can take meaningful steps to protect your oral health and overall well-being.
List of Risk Factors for Oral Cancer:
Tobacco Use: Whether it’s cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco, tobacco use is the most significant risk factor for oral cancer. It’s not just smokers who are at risk; even second-hand smoke can contribute to the development of oral cancer.
Alcohol Consumption: Heavy or frequent alcohol consumption can irritate the cells in your mouth, making them susceptible to oral cancer. The risk is even higher for those who both smoke and drink.
Age Factor: Although oral cancer can occur at any age, the risk notably increases for individuals over the age of 50. Regular screenings become increasingly important as you age.
HPV Infection: The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a common sexually transmitted infection that has been linked to certain types of oral cancer, particularly oropharyngeal cancers.
Dietary Habits: A diet that lacks essential nutrients and antioxidants, particularly one low in fruits and vegetables, can increase your risk of oral cancer. Foods rich in antioxidants can help combat cancer-causing agents.
Sun Exposure: Believe it or not, prolonged exposure to the sun can increase the risk of cancer on your lips. Always use a lip balm with SPF when spending extended periods outdoors.
By recognizing these risk factors and adjusting your lifestyle accordingly, you can significantly reduce your risk of developing oral cancer. If you identify with one or more of these risk factors, we strongly recommend scheduling regular oral cancer screenings.

Our FAQ's
We recommend annual screenings for most adults. However, if you have risk factors like tobacco use or a family history of cancer, more frequent screenings may be advised.
The screening is quick and non-invasive, usually taking less than 10 minutes as part of your regular dental check-up.
If we detect any abnormalities, we may recommend a biopsy for further analysis. Rest assured, we’ll guide you through every step of the process.
While you can’t entirely eliminate the risk, lifestyle changes like quitting smoking and limiting alcohol can significantly reduce your risk.
Oral cancer is extremely rare in children. However, if there are specific concerns, we can certainly perform a screening.
